WEYC BOARD 2000 - 2005

General NewsWe not only have a teriffic board - we have a working one. Just ask them - they'll tell you. They never stop. With six large regattas to run a year it seems as though we are all on a constant spin-around. Nevertheless, they do a "bang-up" job and should be recognized. Besides that - we all have an awful lot of fun.

COMMODORE - DAVE COOPER - Dave is a full-time yacht broker and is restoring a classic trawler that he and Nancy live aboard. However, as a lover of all types of boats & racing, he always has time for the WEYC. As the other members say, "He's the one that cracks the whip." Dave's e-mail address is captdave@surfbvi.com

VICE COMMODORE - ROBIN PINFOLD, owner and operator of that fabulous daysailer Kuralu, a 49' Prout - not only co-helms the board but is also the illustrious Race Chairman of Foxy's Wooden Boat Regatta. Besides this, he is most definitely the party chairman. His e-mail is kuralucharters@surfbvi.com

REAR ADMIRAL - MARTIN VAN HOUTON - What a guy! Besides adding humour and ideas, Martin is a true worker and usually helms both the FireCracker Regatta as Race Chairman besides being Co-Chairman, with Dave & Olaf Krieger at Foxy's Cat Fight held on the weekend closest to Halloween.

OUR MAN FRIDAY - NEIL BAILES Neil is our pitch hitter - He does anything, anytime, anywhere including serving as the Race Chairman each year for the Gustav Wilmerdin Regatta, the first weekend in December.

NELS & LINDA HAGENSON- This tireless couple work so hard for our club and assume so many hats that it is hard to put just one on them. Nels flew Governor Macon to Anegada for us this year on his plane. He is also our liason officer with the KATS program. He helps setting the marks and always provides encouragement. Linda is our right hand lady. She is a secretary, PR person, sells T-shirts, helps in prize giving and just about anything else you can think of.

GEOFF BROOKS - What a guy! Geoff is a member of the Marine Teaching Faculty at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. As such he heads our Wooden Boat/Island Sloop Program. He is dedicated, enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable. As anyone knows, we love our wooden boats and especially our Island Sloops. Thanks Geoff, we couldn't do it without you.

MIKE & DIANE KIRK - While Di is our Membership Chairman - These two also double hit and serve, not only as board members and members of the Race Committee but as Captains as well. Mike was the Race Captain for the highly successful Anegada Race known as the Dark & Stormy. Without them we would be lost.

PUBLICITY - NANCY TERRELL - Handles anything to do with words - whether in writing or orally - just ask anyone. Vocally and literally profuse, she covers the regattas for All At Sea and helps write the website.

JANE CHEESMAN - With her vibrant personality, Jane brings the enthusiasm and cheerfullness we all need on the Race Committee. She runs the registrations, prize committee and Awards Ceremony along with ex-Commodore CARTER POWELL who makes the long trip from Florida each Spring to help run Foxy's Wooden Boat Regatta. Both women are an asset to the team and have worked faithfully for the WEYC for well over a decade. Hats off to the blondes!!

WITH SPECIAL MENTION FOR PAUL MILLER - Lifetime member and website director. Paul runs his own website company (Carib Data Limited) and does all of the results for the BVI Spring Regatta. He is the reason we are on line. Although he lives in Cowes, UK, he is always there to help and give advice. Thanks Paul - we love you.

GOVERNOR TOM MACAN - Although our racing lovin' governor is the Patron of the Royal BVI Yacht Club, he is a true devotee of ours also and supports us in many, many ways along with participating in our events. It is a pleasure to welcome him, along with his multi-talented American wife, Janet, as life members.

And last, but surely not least, is the owner of the Jolly Roger, LOU SCHWARTZ (and his lovely wife Kay) who donate not only the JR for our meetings and storage but their time as well in helping to make the West End Yacht Club the great success that it is. Thank you Lou & Kay - we love you both!
